Apertif & Liquer
Aperitifs are alcoholic beverages usually served before a meal to stimulate the appetite (think of them as appetizers in the alcohol menu), and is therefore usually dry rather than sweet. They are somewhere between 16 and 25 percent alcohol (compared to the 40-50+ percent found in spirits such as whiskey, gin, and vodka), aperitifs are meant to open up the palate, not sedate or overwhelm it.
Liqueurs are flavored spirits prepared by infusing certain woods, fruits, or flowers, in either water or alcohol, and adding sugar, etc. Others are distilled from aromatic or flavoring agents.
